Ditch Productions is proud to introduce their latest creative endeavor, Moving Words:
Moving Words is composed of original multimedia projects inspired by and based on three 20th century American literary pieces: a sonnet from Epitaph For the Race of Man by Edna St. Vincent Millay, Birches by Robert Frost, and Soledad by Robert Hayden. Through combinations of dance, live music, video, and spoken word, the performance pieces will act as interpretations and embodiments of these powerful and epic works, giving well versed and novice audiences alike the opportunity to experience the works anew. The performance will be a starting point of what we hope will become part of a larger youth education program in partnership with Brooklyn schools. The concert will open with Soledad, which is a dance piece choreographed for a small ensemble, and scored to sound art incorporating the poem’s text and word painting effects. This will be followed by Birches, a short stop-motion film that physically depicts the text, with a score for flute, cello, and both pre-recorded and live manipulated voice. The program will close with the St. Vincent Millay piece entitled Us, a work for spoken word, voice, flute, multiple video projections, and dance. The initial performance will be held in the December of 2009.
