Biography
Nathalie Joachim is a flutist, composer, and sound designer making her mark in the contemporary world of multimedia collaboration. Her original work was most recently featured at the RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART presented by SACRED SLAM. Prior to that, she has served as Assistant Sound Designer on Fire Island, an experimental theater production at New York’s renowned 3LD ART & TECHNOLOGY CENTER. In addition, in collaboration with Allison Loggins, she launched FLUTRONIX, a performance group that serves to perpetuate the exploration and creation of experimental works for flute. In April, 2008, Ms. Joachim appeared as a soloist in concert with the STONEWALL CHORALE in honor of and in collaboration with JOHN CORIGLIANO. 2007 included performances at STUDIO B, GALAPAGOS ART SPACE, THE BOWERY POETRY CLUB (NYC), and as a semi-finalist in the CONCERT ARTIST GUILD INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION with DITCH PRODUCTIONS, a multimedia performance art collective of which she is a founding member and Director of Sound and Image.
Ms. Joachim has been featured as a soloist at the 2007 GEZZMATAZZ FESTIVAL in Genova, Italy, THE PUFFIN ROOM (NYC), on NPR’s "Young, Gifted, and Black", with the QUADRANTIS ENSEMBLE, and THE LITTLE ORCHESTRA SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER. Her competition awards include top prizes from the NEW YORK FLUTE CLUB, the NATIONAL FLUTE ASSOCIATION, and AMERICAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA LEAGUE. Additionally, she has appeared as co-principal flute with THE AMERICAN RUSSIAN YOUNG ARTIST ORCHESTRA in the United States, Russia, and Armenia, and has had the pleasure of participating in performances at many prestigious concert venues, including CARNEGIE HALL, AVERY FISHER HALL, and ALICE TULLY HALL in solo, chamber music, and orchestral settings.
Ms. Joachim holds a bachelor’s degree in Flute Music Performance from THE JUILLIARD SCHOOL where she studied under the direction of Carol Wincenc. She has completed graduate course work at NYU in Experimental Music, and is continuing her education at THE NEW SCHOOL working towards a Master of Arts in Media and Sound Studies with a focus on audio production, film scoring, and music editing for film.
